Dr. Michael White, The Cure for the Common Core: Balanced Assessment (Gym)

This presentation will show how to blend summative and formative assessment into a balanced system – how

to help them work in harmony. We have summative assessment to prove learning has occurred. If educators

are given the opportunity to learn more about how and when to use formative assessments they will be

prepared to take full advantage of assessment results in making instructional decisions and encouraging

collaboration. They will be able to use assessments to improve instruction.

Meg Ormiston, Culture Clash! Wired Kids in Text Driven Classrooms (St. Francis Hall)

Outside of school kids have their earbuds in, with a music device in one hand cell phone in the other. In

school the same students struggle with text driven instruction. Forget the dioramas and posters and instead

explore projects that students create using multimedia to summarize what they have learned.

DataManger allows you to streamline the management and reporting of Iowa Assessment™ and Cognitive

Bill Mackie, Best Practices Using ALEKS Online Mathematics (Computer Lab)

Learn how to use the program more effectively to assess student progress as well as tools and reports to

assist in your student’s math skills developments. It is also open to anyone who would like to find out more

about this most effective program to assist students in math.

An in‐depth look at the suite of free Google tools that administrators can use for increased productivity and

collaboration with teachers and schools. Explore the advantages of the cloud used by other administrators

and teachers. Learn more about Gmail, groups, drive, reader, and calendar.

Mary Jo Heiberger, Lynn Newkirk, Janet Zilka, Charts and Graphs (Room 6B)

This class requires a minimum of a little Excel experience. It will review some of the common uses for Excel,

data entry and formatting, using formula and built‐in functions, sorting data, using the Chart Wizard & finally

some similarities and differences as compared to Google Spreadsheets. Sample data will be provided to each

participant who brings their own device via flash drive.

Edmodo is a safe, secure and educational social network which encourages collaboration and extends

learning beyond the school day. In this session you will learn how to setup up an account for you and your

classes in 5 minutes, and how you can use Edmodo in your classroom immediately. Whether you’d like to use

Edmodo for Literature Circles, Online Portfolios, Discussions, Quizzes or Announcements, be ready to

reinvigorate learning in your classroom!
